On Monday, January 21, Sanford students, faculty, administrators, and staff members will observe and celebrate the life and service of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with the third annual Day of Service. Activities will include an all-school assembly, community-service work, and education about Dr. King’s focus on tolerance, non-violence, and service.

Sanford sophomore Becca Stern will be competing in the Junior Ladies division of the U.S. Figure Skating Championships this month in Saint Paul, Minnesota. Becca qualified for nationals following the 2008 Eastern Sectional Championships in November. Congratulations to this fine student-athlete.

This past weekend, Liz Perry ‘09 was named the Eastern Division winner, in the senior voice category, in the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) regional competition. During Spring Break, Liz will compete on the national level in Denver, Colorado. In 1997, Sanford alumna Anna Evans ‘97 earned the national title in this highly regarded competition.

Sanford School students won 45 art awards in the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards competition. Among this year’s winners were senior Jin Chen who received a gold key and silver key for two portfolios, and junior Ban Betteridge who received two American Vision awards.
