Upper School Students Have Their Day in Court

A team consisting of Ian Thresher, Sean Ryon, Quinn Civiletti, Parker Wright, Ella Wagner, Sarah Lamming, Katharine Grandel, Aryeh Kuller and Ben Bacciochi participated in the Delaware High School Mock Trial Competition last weekend at the New Castle County Court House. The group had to prepare and argue against a fictitious criminal homicide case against 3 different schools. Several team members were awarded gavels for outstanding work. Sanford was one of 26 teams that took part in the competition.

Sanford Recognizes Upper School Students for Outstanding Public Service

Senior Emily Stewart is the recipient of the most recent Jefferson Award presented by Sanford School. The Jefferson Award is presented periodically to Upper School students who demonstrate extraordinary public service. Emily was recognized for contributing more than 400 volunteer hours to Ronald McDonald House in Wilmington. Junior Sarah Lamming received the first award earlier this year for her initiative in forming the Spectrum Club.

Sanford Scores in Academic Bowl

The Academic Bowl team recently competed in “Championship Saturday” of the Comcast Academic Challenge where the top six teams in Delaware vied for the opportunity to participate in the national challenge. After a rigorous day of competition, Sanford was second runner up. The team won a trophy, individual medals, and $500. Sanford's matches will be televised on channel 73 on March 7th at 7 p.m., March 8th at 7:30 p.m., and March 9th at 3 p.m.

Sanford Middle School Student Wins Writing Award

Eighth-grade student Jenna Reed recently placed first in a News Journal writing contest. Jenna won a $200 savings bond for writing an outstanding essay on the importance of random acts of kindness in today’s world. Jenna, who competed against seventh through ninth grade students from Delaware, Maryland, and Pennsylvania, was the second Sanford eighth grader to win first place in a News Journal writing contest this school year.

Boys' and Girls' Basketball Teams to Play in State Tournament

Sanford's girls’ basketball team, seeded #6, will compete against the winner of the Milford/Tower Hill game on Thursday, Feb. 28 at 7 pm at Sanford. The boys' team, which is the #8 seed, will play the winner of the Middletown/Newark game at Salesianum School on Friday, Feb. 29 at 7 pm. The cost of admission for each game is $5. Go Warriors!

Sanford Swimmers Are Competing in State Finals

Sanford swimmers Zack Pryor, Brandon Wollaston, Damian Gallagher, Brian Dresser, Sarah Greenwood, Kendall Towe, Caitlin Towe, Annie Bruxelles, Brittany Bowman, and Kelly Reynolds are competing in the state swim finals today at the University of Delaware. Congratulations to these outstanding athletes.

Sanford Students Named National Merit Finalists

Brittany Bowman and Brian Nachbar have been named finalists in the 2008 National Merit Scholarship competition. Their selection qualifies the Sanford seniors to compete for some 8,200 Merit Scholarship awards, worth $34 million, that will be offered in the spring. The National Merit Scholarship Program honors individual students who show exceptional academic ability and potential for success in rigorous college studies. Brittany and Brian were selected from more than 16,000 semifinalists.
