Sanford Students Named National Merit Finalists

Brittany Bowman and Brian Nachbar have been named finalists in the 2008 National Merit Scholarship competition. Their selection qualifies the Sanford seniors to compete for some 8,200 Merit Scholarship awards, worth $34 million, that will be offered in the spring. The National Merit Scholarship Program honors individual students who show exceptional academic ability and potential for success in rigorous college studies. Brittany and Brian were selected from more than 16,000 semifinalists.

Kudos to Sanford's Wrestlers and Indoor Track Team Athletes

Sanford wrestlers Scott Humphreys, Mason Bieber-Ham, Zack Cook, Tommy Rogers, Chris Bobbitt, Trae Humphreys, and Greg Kramer have qualified for the state championships which will be held this Friday and Saturday at Sussex Central High School. In other athletic news, the Indoor Track Team competed last Saturday in the state meet at the University of Delaware. Morgan Ayars finished in 4th place in the shot put and Lilla Alchon finished in 5th place in the 800-meter run.

New Winter Merchandise Now Available in the Spirit Store

A new supply of Sanford School winter merchandise is available in the Spirit Store. Snowboard hats, fleece sweatshirts, and other Sanford specialty items may be purchased at Pirnie Hall during the following Spirit Store Friday hours: February 22nd from 11:30 AM - 1:00 PM, February 29th from 7:30 - 8:30 AM, March 7th from 7:30 - 8:30 AM, and March 14th from 7:30 - 8:30 AM.

Sanford Seniors Win Scholastic Writing Awards

Sean Ryon and Niel Rosenthalis recently received 2008 Scholastic Writing awards in the Delaware Regional Affiliate competition. Both students, who won multiple honors including Best of Show American Voices awards and Gold Keys for writing portfolios, are eligible for national level awards which include tuition scholarships and grants. National awards will be announced in April and presented this summer at Carnegie Hall. Congratulations to these fine writers.

Sanford Wins Early Rounds of Academic Bowl, Will Compete on Championship Saturday

The Sanford team of Brian Nachbar, Nikhil Sitaram, Chris Copeland, and Richard Townsend recently competed in the preliminary rounds of the Comcast Academic Challenge. After several rounds of highly challenging competition, Team Sanford was undefeated and decisively won its bracket. On Saturday, February 23rd, Sanford will be one of the top six teams in the state to compete for trophies, scholarships, and the state championship.
