Sanford Senior Wins DMEA Scholarship

The Delaware Music Educators Association has awarded its first Future Music Educator Scholarship (FMES) to Ryan John. The FMES is DMEA's newest scholarship program and carries with it a $1000 award. Ryan will be attending Westminster Choir College as a music education major. During his high school career, Ryan has been a perennial member of All-State Chorus and Orchestra as well as the American Choral Directors Association All-Eastern Chorus and the Delaware Youth Orchestra.

Sanford Students Recognized for Athletics

Sanford senior Jamie Milliski and freshman Danielle Fleming were recognized at the recent Women in Sports Day Luncheon, sponsored by the Delaware Women's Alliance for Sport and Fitness. During the ceremony, which was held at the University of Delaware, Jamie was honored as an outstanding senior athlete and Danielle as an athlete of promise. Congratulations to these fine student-athletes.

Sanford Students Attend Leadership Seminar

Sophomores Brian Dresser and Haydyn Johnson recently participated in the 49th annual Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership Seminar, a national program designed to motivate and empower high school sophomores to make a positive difference within our global society. The program, which brings together students with leadership potential, features prominent motivational speakers from the business and political worlds. The Delaware State Federation of Women’s Clubs hosted the seminar in Rehoboth Beach.

In honor of Earth Day, Sanford's Upper School held a Paperless Day which featured a variety of activities including removing paper from printers and copy machines and conducting classes with little or no paper. Upper School Goes Paperless for Earth Day

In honor of Earth Day, Sanford's Upper School held a Paperless Day which featured a variety of activities including removing paper from printers and copy machines, conducting classes with little or no paper, and learning more about protecting the environment from the Sanford Environmental Action League. Sanford Students Win Awards in Communications Contest

Several students are being recognized in the 2008 First State High School Communications Contest sponsored by the Delaware Press Association and The News Journal. Sean Ryon is receiving an honorable mention award in Cartooning and a third-place prize in the Opinion category; Sarah Lamming, who won a third-place award, is being recognized in the Feature Photo category; Ariel Majidi and Katrina Medoff have won a second-place honor in Graphics; and, Caryn Lenhoff is receiving a second-place award in the Opinion category.

Sanford Performs Well in Math League

Congratulations to Sanford’s 10th-12th grade Math League team which came in second place at the recent invitational meet in Dover. Senior Brian Nachbar had a perfect individual score. Kudos also to the 9th grade team which placed 7th. During the regular season, the 10-12th grade team came in first in our region, and the 9th grade team placed 2nd regionally. Brian Nachbar and freshman Cindy Duan were first place individual winners in their respective divisions.

Student Artwork to be Featured at Local Gallery

From April 18th through the 30th, The Big Picture frame shop and art gallery in Lantana Square will be featuring artwork created by Jin Chen, Maura Gay, Ryan John, Sarah Lamming, Miranda Warrington, and Katy Wiedemann during the gallery's annual, juried, high school art exhibition. The Sanford community is invited to the opening reception on Friday, April 18, from 5:00-7:30 p.m.
