A Celebration of Life Scheduled for Nancy Churchman Sawin

A Celebration of Life for Nancy Churchman Sawin, Sanford’s second Head of School (1962-75) and daughter of Ellen Quigley Sawin and Sanford Wales Sawin, founders of the school, will be held on Saturday, April 19th at 10:30 a.m., in the Commons of Stephen May Hall. A reception in Quigley Hall will follow the service. Nancy passed away on March 18 after a long illness. She was 90 years old. Please click here to read Nancy’s obituary.

Sanford Mourns the Loss of Helen Vermeychuk

The Sanford community mourns the death of beloved longtime faculty member Helen Vermeychuk. Services will be held as follows: There will be a prayer service at Doherty Funeral Home on Limestone Road Thursday, April 10th, at 6 P.M. In addition, a funeral service will be held on Friday, April 11th at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, on Broom Street in Wilmington, beginning at 10 A.M. Following the service, interment will be held at Silverbrook Cemetery.

Sanford Senior Receives Jefferson Award

Krista Bacchieri is the recipient of the third Jefferson Youth Service Initiative Award presented by Sanford School during this school year. The Jefferson Award is presented to Upper School students who demonstrate outstanding public service. Krista was recognized for her leadership in the Power Up Gambia program.

Sanford Alumna Honored

Monick Foote ‘94 was recently inducted into the Delaware Interscholastic Basketball Coaches Association’s Hall of Fame. Monick received the award and honor during DIBCA’s annual Blue-Gold Banquet in Dover. During her acceptance speech, Monick thanked Sanford School for giving her the opportunity and support necessary to succeed.

Mark your calendars for Growing Up Global: Raising children to be at home in the world

Homa Tavangar, who spent several months in The Gambia, will explore the challenges and opportunities of raising children with a global perspective in a rapidly changing world. This event is being presented by The Four School Parent Awareness Committee and Power Up Gambia. There is no charge for admission; however, registration is recommended.
