Sanford Freshman Wins State Championship

Following a long and hard fought match yesterday at the University of Delaware, Cindy Duan won her second consecutive first singles state championship. In second singles competition, senior Becky Campbell put up a good fight but lost in two sets. Becky had a great tennis career at Sanford and an outstanding season this year to reach her first ever state final. Sanford Athletes Advance in State Tournaments

Cindy Duan (1st singles) and Becky Campbell (2nd singles) have advanced to the Delaware state women’s finals, scheduled to begin around 2:30 Thursday afternoon at the University of Delaware courts. In first round action of the girls’ soccer tournament, the Warriors won after a hard fought battle in 4 overtimes. Congratulations to Morgan Ayars who scored all of Sanford’s goals in the 4-3 defeat over St. Thomas More. The soccer team will be back in action Saturday night, at Wesley College in Dover, playing against Caesar Rodney.

Sanford Captures Three DISC Titles

Sanford athletic teams have won three Delaware Independent School Conference titles in spring sports. The golf and girls’ soccer teams have been named DISC champions and the girls’ tennis team has been named a co-champion. Please come out and support our athletes during tournament events. United States Congressman Mike Castle visited Sanford this week to see the green roof that has been installed on the Nancy C. Sawin Math-Science Center. DuPont Hosts Sanford Group at Smart Talk Event

Coaches and players from the Sanford girls’ basketball team attended the most recent Smart Talk event which featured Vivian Stringer, head coach of the Rutgers University women’s basketball team.
