Sanford Students Win Awards at Local Art Show

Congratulations to senior Jin Chen and junior Katy Wiedemann who were recognized recently during the Big Picture art gallery and frame shop’s fourth annual juried student art competition. Jin won second place for a computer art piece and Katy won an honorable mention award for a self-portrait. You can read more about the competition in this week’s Community News publications.

Sanford Students Selected for All-State Theatre Production

Twelve Sanford students, representing all three divisions of the school, have been selected to perform in the All-State Theatre student production of Les Miserables. The show, which will feature the finest student performers in Delaware and the surrounding region, will run the last two weekends of June at the DuPont Theatre in Wilmington. Sanford Teacher to be an Honored Guest of the Japanese Government

In June, Upper School teacher Donna Sherpa will depart for Tokyo as a participant in the Japan Fulbright Memorial Fund Teacher Program. Ms. Sherpa was selected from a national pool of more than 1,700 applicants by a panel of educators to earn this honor. This program allows distinguished educators in the united States to travel to Japan for three weeks in an effort to promote greater intercultural understanding between the two nations.

Delaware Press Association Recognizes Sanford Publications

Three Sanford publications have been recognized in this year's Delaware Press Association (DPA) Communications Contest. The Sanford Calendar, featuring The Faces of Sanford School, and SANFORD magazine won first-place awards in their respective categories. As statewide winners, both publications have been entered in the 2008 Communications Contest sponsored by the National Federation of Press Women. In addition, TALENTS won a second-place award in the newsletter category.
