Sanford Senior Wins Scholarship

Monday, January 26th, 2009

Ella Wagner is a third-place winner in the Delaware Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Essay Scholarship contest. Ella, whose essay focused on the topic 1860 Candidate Lincoln’s Middle Path on Slavery: Too Little or Just Right?, will receive a $5,000 scholarship. In addition, Ella and the other winners will be honored at the Delaware Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Dinner in February, at the Chase Riverfront Center in Wilmington. Congratulations to this outstanding scholar.

Thank you for supporting our day of service

This past Monday, members of the Sanford community dedicated their Martin Luther King, Jr. Day to supporting community service work for a variety of organizations. Some of the groups that received assistance include the Food Bank of Delaware, Canine Partners for Life, Heifer International, the Clothing Bank of Delaware, Mision Santa Maria, Tri-State Bird Rescue, Faithful Friends, and Hagley Museum.

Sanford student wins award in MLK Education Contest

Sophomore Jasmine Caulfield is a winner in this year’s Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Celebration Education Contest. Jasmine was selected as a poetry winner in the competition, which focused on the theme ONE DREAM, ONE WORLD, ONE COMMUNITY—Breaking Barriers, Building Our Community. Jasmine’s poem, along with the other winning entries, will be on display throughout today’s MLK Day celebration at the Chase Center on the Riverfront in Wilmington.

The Upper School Service Club will host its annual Spaghetti Dinner on Friday, February 6, from 5:30-8 p.m. Proceeds will benefit Service Club projects including Habitat for Humanity and the Chinese Orphans Assistance Team. Tickets are $7 per adult and $5 per child 12 and under. Entertainment will be provided. Stop by for dinner before or after the boys’ basketball game. For more information, call 302.239.5263.
