Sanford Students Honored for Artwork

The Delaware Foundation for the Visual Arts (DFVA) has selected drawings created by junior Connor Davis and senior Katy Wiedemann for publishing in the 2010 DFVA Calendar. Katy also won a $500 scholarship for a portfolio she submitted to DFVA. Connor and Katy’s submissions were for the 2009 Excellence in Drawing Calendar Competition.

Sanford Senior Named Presidential Scholar Semifinalist

Chris Copeland has been selected as a semifinalist for the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program. Established in 1964, this prestigious program recognizes some of the nation’s most distinguished graduating seniors for their accomplishments in a variety of areas including outstanding scholarship, leadership, creativity, and service. 560 semifinalists were selected from more than 3,000 nationwide candidates. The Presidential Scholars Program, which selects up to 141 scholars annually, is one of the nation’s highest honors for high school students.

Kudos to our Cum Laude Society Inductees

The Cum Laude Society honors juniors and seniors who have achieved academic distinction during their Upper School years. Last week, members of the Class of 2009 and 2010 were inducted into the Cum Laude Society during an Upper School ceremony. The inductees were Louis Baum, Elizabeth Brooks, Brian Chorman, Sarah Halbert, Sarah Johnson, Chris Kerwien, Sarah Lamming, Ian Lenhoff, Ariel Majidi, Leila Nashed, Rebecca Stern and Richard Townsend.

Congratulations to our World Language Honor Society Inductees

Fifteen Upper School students were inducted into World Language honor societies recently. Inducted into the French Honor Society were Jasmine Caulfield, Rebecca Stern, and Hannah Wagner. Latin Honor Society inductees were Sarah Halbert, Sarah Lamming, and Maggie Younger. Steffi Cramer, Tim Eggen, Eva Philippi, and T.J. Potter were inducted into the German Honor Society. And, Spanish Honor Society inductees were Taylor Desgrosseilliers, Brian Dresser, Katie Grant, Josiah Hannon, and Emily Simonton.

More than 20 Sanford School winter athletes have been recognized for post-season honors in swimming, basketball, wrestling, and winter track.
