Sanford Senior Named 2009 Presidential Scholar

U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan has announced the selection of Chris Copeland as a 2009 Presidential Scholar.

Chris is one of 141 outstanding American high school seniors who have demonstrated exceptional academic achievement, artistic excellence, leadership, citizenship, and service at school and in their community. The Presidential Scholars will be honored for their accomplishments in Washington, D.C. from June 20th through June 24th. Congratulations to this outstanding scholar.

Sanford Student Wins First Place in Art Show

Senior Katy Wiedemann won first place in the Big Picture Art Show recently. Katy, who also won first place in the organization’s show two years ago, received the award for her digital photograph Nature’s Plumage. A multi-talented artist, Katy will attend the Rhode Island School of Design in the fall of 2009.

Upper School Supports Day of Silence

Members of the Upper School community recently supported a National Day of Silence, a student-led event that brings attention to anti-Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender name-calling, bullying and harassment in schools. Sanford’s participation, which was sponsored by the Spectrum Club, was featured in The News Journal and Community News.
