Sanford Students to Defend Punkin Chunkin Title

The Upper School science and engineering club, Project Beyond, will participate in the 24th Annual World Championship Punkin Chunkin competition in Bridgeville, Delaware, from November 6–8. The team has conducted several trial launches with Sanford Slinger. Last year, the Sanford trebuchet came in second place by launching a four-pound pumpkin 619 feet. In addition, team captain Jesse Taylor ‘09 received a first-place award for his catapult, Punkin Pitcher, which launched a four-pound pumpkin 888 feet.

Sanford seniors receive National Merit honors

Four members of Sanford’s graduating class are being honored by the National Merit Scholarship Program. Ian Lenhoff has been named a semifinalist, giving him an opportunity to compete for monetary awards that will be offered next spring. Semifinalists placed among the top one percent of more than 1.4 million students who entered the competition. Lizze Brooks, Caryn Lenhoff, and Leila Nashed have been named commended students, placing them among the top five percent of this year’s competing students.
