Duan and Prokhnevska Win Championships

Congratulations to Cindy Duan and Natasha Prokhnevska on their victories Thursday in the DIAA State Tennis Championships. Cindy won her first singles match 7-5, 6-0, and Natasha won her second singles match 6-0, 6-0. Kudos to Sanford’s new state champions.

In girls’ tennis:
First singles player Cindy Duan and second singles player Natasha Prokhnevska will compete in the semi-finals of the DIAA state tennis championships on Wednesday, May 26th at 3:30 p.m. The matches will take place at the University of Delaware courts. Congratulations to these outstanding student-athletes.

Sanford Tennis Players Advance to Quarterfinals

Following the first and second rounds of the DIAA State Tennis Championships, several Sanford athletes have advanced to Monday’s quarterfinal round.
In girls’ action: First singles #1 seed Cindy Duan, second singles #1 seed Natasha Prokhnevska, and third singles #8 seed Elizabeth DiFilippo have advanced.
In boys’ action: The second doubles team of Kyle McGregor and Dan Coburn have moved on to the quarterfinals.
Good luck to all of these student-athletes.

Middle School student achieves writing honor

Eighth grader Babette Vanlancker’s poem, “My Story,” has been accepted for publication in the spring edition of A Celebration of Young Poets. Babette’s autobiographical work was selected by Creative Communication, an organization that celebrates and rewards excellence in writing. Congratulations to this outstanding young writer.

Hendrix Scores 100th Goal

Congratulations to Sanford girls’ lacrosse player Sukey Hendrix. Sukey recently scored her 100th high school career goal during a home game against Westtown. The Sanford student-athlete, who also plays field hockey, will attend the University of Alabama in the fall of 2010.

Three students win awards

Artwork created by Howard Blake, Liesl Cruse, Phoebe Hering, Marli Hurff, Ariel Jicha, Tommy Kim, Sophie Ritter, Kyle Smith,Tommy Stevens, and Emily Widdoes will be on display at The Big Picture custom framing shop in Hockessin’s Lantana Square through May 20th. In this juried show, Howard Blake won 1st place, Phoebe Hering won 3rd place, and Kyle Smith received an honorable mention. Congratulations to these fine artists.
